That's worked an absolute treat Alan and all the better for the kit supplying the extra decals albeit not intentionally.

BTW that tailplane is huge!

Once the paint dried I realised I had added too many coats of paint and could hardly see the effect I was after, so a quick wipe over with damp sponge followed by a very light overspray to even the effect, I'm now happy.

I'm enjoying the kit so much I have just popped out for lunch and picked up a copy of the first issue, with the burning zeppelin on the box art work.

That is a very impressive build thread. The idea for the underwing translucent effect was a masterstroke - that is so difficult to achieve and pull off - you have done so well. Airfix have certainly produced an excellent kit and you are demonstrating just how good it is.

I can't take credit for the under wing effect, I first saw it used by Mike Grant, when he printed his own very faint decals on I think an Airfix Sopworth Pup, I'm just a cheapskate and like to use what's available.

Here is the other boxed version I picked up today.

Spectacular Splash! Love the checkerboard pattern. I have not seen this kit yet but will be keeping my eyes open when I go to my local hobby shop.

Things slowed down a bit as I broke my last micro drill bit, but a seller on eBay had sets of 20 bits available for less than £3 a set with free postage and next day delivery  so I order four sets. To my utter suprise true to the sellers word the turned up the following day via the Royal Mail :-D

I have hunted around my local fishing tackle shops for a suitable line to use for the rigging and found several but trial runs shows they are not suitable so I'm going to try very fine copper wire, time will tell if this was the right decision

Airfix have supplied jigs to set the struts at the correct angle to ease the construction, you can see them in use in the photo below.

I use copper wire to rig my models but I do not drill holes. I flatten and straighten the wire by rolling the wire on a flat wood board with a piece of brass strip (any flat metal would do). I then measure the lengths with dividers on the model and use superglue to hold the wire in place. I know that this method does not suit everyone but I find it quicker and ultimately less frustrating than drilling and filling endless holes. Very little retouching needed too.
