Good luck with painting the props...that looks like a real challenge!

That is just astounding! What a effort you made to make it look so easy.

I have a 1/72 Herald to build, so I'm watching how this one takes shape. The BMI scheme is certainly mot attractive.

Pity I decided to do it in BIA colours :)

BIA - British Island Airways "fell out" of the merger between British United Airways and Caledonian in 1970. BUA had established their internal UK and Ireland services as British United Island Airways (BUIA) but this part of the airline was not incorporated into the new British Caledonian. Following the merger, BUIA emerged as the independent BIA and they came up with the rather attractive white and red scheme. They also operated DC-3s on freight services within the British Isles and I'd like to do a BIA DC-3 sometime.

Of course, British Midland Airways (BMA) did indeed use Heralds - but their colour scheme is a bit complex to tackle.

After a year of languishing, I took a run at the Herald and finally completed it yesterday. It's the first vacform model I've successfully completed in over 30 years and I'm reasonably pleased with the end result.

I already have a few in mind. You can credit yourself with being the inspiration for me to get Back to Vac (NOT an Amy Winehouse song).

I have to say the little Welsh Model kits are ideal for anyone who is tempted to have a go with the dark arts of vac form kit building.

Very pretty; always admire anyone who can 'do' a vac!
Best wishes

I can now "do a vac" but I don't think I can do the "shake & vac".

Looking good. I have this kit in the stash, but like the original decals. I think Welsh Models do a set of resin wings now. Must have a look.

Most of their current kits feature resin wings - which is a major advantage as getting vac form wings thinned sufficiently is a bit of a chore. The downside is that the resin wings have bumped up the prices quite a bit.

I have quite a few Welsh Model kits in the stash - many of which I've had for 20 years or more - so they are all vac form with little or no resin components.

They don't have wings for this, so it's back to the sandpaper.

A very nice completion Eric, I too have a stash of Welsh Models kits as for many years they were the only way of getting kits in 1/144 (or any scale), though I've only completed three of them so far. I'd like to get their Nimrod done next year while the field is still clear of alternatives
