Here's my second finish of 2017, a JP T.5A built using the venerable 1970's Airfix Strikemaster kit. All in all the old Strikey kit is not too bad but there are errors, the worst being the cockpit canopy. The rear framework needed correction as Airfix moulded it with too much of a backward slope and I made a new frame out of very thin plastic card. On the inside of the rear canopy I also made a rear bulkhead out of plastic card and rod as no such item is provided in the kit and a roll over hoop was made out of plastic rod to go behind the seats. A little cockpit detail was added and the seats were beefed up using plastic card and filler as OOB they are a bit on the weedy side and ejection pull handles were added made from stretched sprue. To give the model a more candid appearance I dropped the flaps, new ones being fabricated from my dwindling store of aerodynamically shaped plastic strip and I re-positioned the elevators and rudder and it is not uncommon to see parked JP's displaying their flaps and control surfaces as such.
Paint is largely enamel, Revell Matt 5 white and HU 174 Signal Red and Hu-40 light grey with Tamiya acrylic being used for the black anti-dazzle. All paint was applied by airbrush and, yes, the masking was a bit of a pain
Markings are chiefly from Xtradecal sheet X72236 with stencils being a mix of the kit and my spares box.

This pair made for an interesting bit of modelling and fill a gap in my collection as the old red/white/grey scheme is my favourite for RAF trainers.
