Something different: A pair of 'Car Door" Typhoons in 1/72

I picked up the Airfix Typhoon when it first came out but could not find the incentive to build it as I had the Academy late model Typhoon sitting on the shelf. I know the Airfix is better but there were more unique aircraft in the stash that always came first. Then, Brengun came out with it's line of early Typhoons with the car door and in 1/72. These I had to build. afterall, where else will you be able to get a prototype Typhoon with twelve .303 machine guns and a solid read fairing. With school letting out, I had my first summer build.

The first aircraft is a Hawker Typhoon 1a flown by the Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment (A&AEE) in 1941

I didn't know these existed! Unusual looking compared to what I'm used to seeing in a Typhoon. Definetly an eye catcher! Good job!

And now, my second "Car Door" Typhoon. It too is a Brengun kit and the only enhancement was replacing the kit 20mm cannons with some aftemarket brass barrels that were made for the Hurricane Mk. IIc. This particular aircraft is an early production Hawker Typhoon Mk.Ib. It differs from the late model Typhoon by having a three blade propeller, 20mm cannons with short fairings, Car doors instead of a sliding bubble canopy and no strengthening plates on the rear fuselage.

Hawker Typhoon Mk.Ib flown by Sdn Ldr Paul Richey while assigned to 609 Squadron in 1942. This aircraft was later flown by R.P. Beuamont.

Thanks. If you want to add a pair of early Typhoons, Brengun is the way to go. Unless you prefer the more expensive Czeck Master resin resion. :P

These aeroplanes are close to being my favourite, spitfire still holds the title though, with 109's a close second, but back to the thread, I have a Brengun kit in front of me now, soooo tempted , thanks for sharing.
