Pfalz D III; Warbirds (Rareplanes) 1/72
Pfalz D III; Warbirds (Rareplanes) 1/72
This is the second time I have built this Warbirds kit. Fortunately, there is on shortage of colour schemes for it. On this one, the scheme I used is the one suggested in the kit's instructions.
The kit is a vacform that was released in 1979. As with all the kits in the Warbirds series (part of Rareplanes), it's a high quality kit that can result in a decent model. The markings I used came from spares so they are not all the right size - they are fairly close.

Another little gem from you, Vacant. Just out of interest, how many built models do you have in your collection?
Re: Pfalz D III; Warbirds (Rareplanes) 1/72
How many? Probably enough to fill 'four thousand holes in Blackburn Lancashire'.

Your work always impresses me to no end, but your Pfalz has better build quality that some of us manage with more "shake-n-bake" kits!
You have mad skills, sir!

Very neat and tidy build indeed
Best wishes

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Amazing
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale

Very nicely done, Vacant. I like the Pfalz D III and it makes a change to see a model of the type as opposed to the more commonly built German WWI fighter types such as the Albatros D series fighters or Fokker DVII (both of which I like but it's still good to see the Pfalz!).

That is indeed very nice.
The Blue Max Pfaltzs (and other aircraft from the film) were stored in Ireland right until the 1980s. They were kept at the Powerscourt Estate, Co. Wicklow (owned by the Slazenger sportswear family). I attended two airshows there (in 1977 and 1978) where they were put on display in the static park. They were pretty realistic except for the fact that they had metal propellers.

Another very fine build. Lovely to see a WW1 subject too - not the easiest to achieve in vacform.
