Luftwaffe Mystery Decals - can someone identify the aircraft

Post by beany »

I bought the Revell 1/32 Me262 that I am about to Blitzbau this week and it came with a set of replacement decals. However, I do not believe these are for a 262 but don't know exactly what they are for. The unit characters may be a clue, e.g. the bird with the umbrella and the red arch backed cat.

Info. on the units and more importantly the actual aircraft that carried these marking will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Al.

I'm no expert but I think the unit emblems are fighter units. Maybe a 109 sheet?
Sorry I can't be more help.

All the best.

The bird with umbrella at least is a JG 51 Sqn http://deconstructingmak.blogspot.com.a ... round.html;

The one with the bow and arrow, ok the arrow looks a bit like an eagle is JG 1 https://au.pinterest.com/pin/282741682835289319;

The red cat is 4/JG 52 https://au.pinterest.com/pin/452541462535711037;

The black eagle is 6/JG 52 https://au.pinterest.com/pin/334814553520992235;

Yeah, thats a sheet for a 109. That white rectangular stencil with "Vorsicht beim öffnen" is typical for a lot of 109s (not the late ones, though).
So, you have to look for other decals....:-(

The markings across the top are for Reinhard Heydrich. He flew a 109E3 or E4 in Operation Barbarossa, marked < S + ~ the S being written in the Nazi SS style. He was the only pilot ever to have used three symbols to denote his rank and Gruppe/Staffel

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.
