FW Condor; Revell 1/72

Post by vacant »

This was another donated kit from an attic clearance, this time unbuilt. It seemed to be complete and perhaps it was, but somewhere on its travels, it managed to lose one engine cowling. I hunted through my spares and made a new one from bits of two spares. I won't say which one. If you can see it, then it's game up - if you can't, it must have worked.

I could not resist the camouflage scheme, though the kit I was give was the original 1971 release. This meant I had to make up some of the decals with odds and ends. The nose antennae can be bought as a brass etched set. I made it as best I could using stretched sprue so if it looks a bit uneven in places, that's down to my shaky fingers.

Nice how did you do the squigglies? Also known as mottling?

Lovely - especially as it's the old mould.

The squiggles were painted by hand using a paint brush - there are times when arthritic shaky fingers can be advantage.

Fantastic build and scheme!

I think you've possibly answered my dilemma about what to build next......I have the new tool version of this in the stash. In fact it's one of the longest residents in the stash so deserves to come out to play!
Best wishes

That's amazing! Beautiful piece of work on what I guess is the old Revell kit, so not the most cooperative piece of plastic in the first place. You've done an amazing job on it, especially the worms.

Amazing!
This is/was the most heavily infested kit with rivets I have ever seen. A lot of folk would not have the patience to achive what you have though I would have replaced the guns with spent needles from the vets when my cat is vacinated!

It still is rivet infested - I did nothing to remove them. You are certainly right about the guns. They look like big thick broom sticks. I may get around to replacing them. On the photo, there is also something missing at the end of the tailplanes. The missing pieces have now been attached.

Well I must say I have never seen this kit built as well as you have done. Great work good sir. Oh and I for one can not tell which cowling you replaced.

All the best.

All around, we'll done!
I do admire your patience in hand painting those squiggles. You must be exceptionally calm.

I thought that this kit dated from the early 1960's not early 1970's. Whatever the age of the moulds this is another super model and I particularly like the camouflage. As for the engine cowling - well who is going to bother on a model that looks as good as this?

I took my cue about the date from Scalemates which lists it as a new tool in 1971. The bits of box art I was given showed it to be from this date. Was there an earlier version?

I'm pretty sure it has a pedigree going back beyond 1971.
