Hawker Fury Mk.1
Hi everyone,
I’m not really a biplane builder but I tried my best with this kit and have certainly learnt a few things for next time. The kit was quite easy to build and to make things more interesting I added some extra detail to the cockpit and repositioned the pilot figure. The cockpit detail isn’t all that visible but I’m happy with how the pilot turned out.
The model was brush painted using Humbrol enamels and metalcotes (metalcote for the front fuselage area). The yellow areas were done with Revell Aqua color. Rigging is fine EZ Line.

Beautiful. Great result from that nice, but simple kit.
So many models, so little time.

That is a smart bit of kit. I love the interwar RAF with the bright squadron liveries. Makes me wish I could rig biplanes.
Did you do the rigging with latex thread?

Not really Revell, more Matchbox.

Granted that the tooling was Matchbox, the kit as built appears to be a Revell boxing in that scheme......billkby wrote:Not really Revell, more Matchbox.
Nice build though, wouldn't you agree?

That is wonderful, Stu, a really great job. The Fury is a very pretty biplane and looks great in that colourful inter-war scheme. This could well be the old Matchbox tooling (sorry but I can't be bothered to check!) but it looks none the worse for that if it is.

Well tidy work on a well tidy model, well tidy indeed.
Re: Hawker Fury Mk.1, 1/72, Revell
Wow- that was brush painted? Impressive! The Matchbox biplanes were all incredible kits for their time and still hold their own today, with some extra detailing. How did you get the yellow spine so evenly applied? Well done, sir! (Their Siskin was my very favorite of their biplane kits and one of my best models.)

Re: Hawker Fury Mk.1, 1/72, Revell
Thanks, the rigging was EZ line elastic thread. I attach one end with superglue, cut a little shorter than needed and then stretch it slightly and attach the other end. It seemed to be easier where I had drilled holes so next time I'm going to try drilling more holes and see how it goes. I found it quite difficult but I think it was worth it.Spaceowl wrote:That is a smart bit of kit. I love the interwar RAF with the bright squadron liveries. Makes me wish I could rig biplanes.
