Revell 1/72 Bf-109 G-10, NJG 11, Salzweder, April 1945
I am calling this the 2nd in my project to build a range of 1/72 Bf-109s in eye-catching finishes.
Action commenced in my workbench, here:
http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=471&start=1260
The Revell kit is from 1996, and suffered some deficiencies that I had to correct - horribly shaped propeller and solid air scoop were the most obvious. The Prop came from the old Heller 109K kit, and the sir scoop from Quickboost. I also used the Heller 3-part canopy (including armoured rear glazing), and that led to some Eduard PE in the cockpit.
Main decals are from H Models, with stencilling from the kit decals. The Revell decal for the spinner spiral is not quite correct for this aircraft, but it saved me from a stressful paint job!
Paints are my favoured Xtracolour enamels. The primer in the nose area was mixed from Humbrols.
The lower surface RLM 76 colour was pre-shaded, but all other surfaces were post-shaded with Tamiya X-19 Smoke.
Panel washes were restricted to control surface hinge lines and some major panel joins.
I am not fond of PE and CA glue, but this result was quite encouraging!
I am entirely satisfied with the way that turned out, and I have another in the stash for when I find another interesting G-10 scheme.
Thanks for looking,
David

That is glorious - considering it's 1/72. I've attempted this kit twice and on both occasions have failed to finish it. I can't really say why, it's not bad as a kit.

Superb build and an excellent paint job
Best wishes

That is superbly finished and I especially like the cockit interior. If you had not told us the scale I would have guessed that was 1/48.

Fantastic work, David. That 109 really pops out in Braille Scale.

Many thanks, chaps.

With RLM 02 unusually on the top sides late in the war, it is certainly a candidate for my lineup.
The mottling looks a bit suspicious to me. I may have to guess the upper wing camo scheme if I cannot find anything.
And I will have to repaint the Morane aerial mast on my model!
cheers,
David
Thanks, Paul, found some good detail about that aircraft, with credit to IPMS Stockholm. Apparently it has been repainted in its original scheme, which is useful to know:PaulBradley wrote:Very nice, David!
There's always this one:
The one I used to work on at Planes of Fame.

That really is an excellent late war '109, David and could easily pass off as being in 1/48th or even 1/32nd in the photos. Very well done indeed.

Good job mate. It's not an easy kit to build and you did a brilliant work.
Cheers

Wow, David! That looks so good! The scalloping on the wing is great. How did you mask it? The PE cockpit looks really sharp too.
