Mig 21SBM
Mig 21SBM
I acquired this it as part of a job lot. The seller told me it was dreadful and probably not worth building. It was in a crushed and tatty cardboard box with a poorly painted and dreadfully printed box. Everything, including the instruction sheet, was in Russian.
It looked very much like a reboxing of a 1/72 KP kit. The parts lacked refinement, but it seemed to be nicely detailed with several small fiddly parts. I have previously built the KP Mig 21 and this looked similar, apart from the ordnance provided. I think it's supposed to be a 21MF, but I could be wrong - there are too many variants of the Mig 21 for me to be certain.
Correction - an SBM.
I decided to paint it in East German markings using some spare decals in the spares box. All in all, it seemed fine to me.

Nice one! That has scrubbed up very well indeed
Best wishes

Very nicely done.

Re: Mig 21MF
That's a Mig-21bis judging by the loadout, and I would guess it's a reboxing of the Condor kit from the early 2000s. I built an Indian Air Force one a few years back, and I seem to remember it was quite a tidy kit.
Yours has turned out very well - I do like the LSK camo scheme.

Re: Mig 21MF
The load may give a false impression - I may have done a bit of mixing and matching. I checked out photos of the sprues of the Condor Mig 21 - that' definitely the one. It's not one I have come upon previously. Thanks for the information.
I have also been told that the Mig type is a Mig SM because of the dorsal tank. I realised that I was taking a few liberties with the kit and the markings, but it's not something over which I will lose any sleep.

Good one! Nice rescue!
Yes, it is an SMB, the only version with the spine tank totally wrapped around the lower part of the fin. (Most commonly identified as an SMT, but if Bill Gunston says it is an SMB, that's good enough for me!)
Cheers,
David
