Airfix new tool 1:72 Me 262
Very nice kit, some issues as noted by others but easy to put right. Not my finest modelling hour, skills are a bit rusty ( i don`t model through the summer )
markings and scheme from the box using the recommended Humbrol paint colours. A fail by me on the nose weight hense the canterlever base plate.

That looks as good built as it does in the box! Very sharp build indeed
Best wishes

Very well done. The mottle camouflage looks very good - done with a sponge? That is so difficult to get right in this scale even with an airbrush.

Thanks guys. Lone Modeller, the mottling is done with my usual technique of putting a small amount of the desired colour
onto a flat surface and then dabbing a pointed cotton bud into the paint. Dab this a few times on some paper to lose some of the
excess and also to give you and idea of what your going to get on the model. Then just dab away to your hearts content at your
masterpiece The tricky part is trying to keep it random looking. If you think you`ve done to much of a colour just go over
with the underlying colour.
Added a couple of example images. Hopefully this wont be seen as off topic as the enquiry was made here.

Re: Airfix new tool 1:72 Me 262
I've tried a similar technique using a short haired stipple brush and it works quite well. In real life, German ground crew often applied mottle "in the field" using a sponge technique, so cotton buds and stipple brushes are a decent scale replication of this technique.
These days I use my airbrush though.

Nice, thanks for sharing your technique for mottling. I've used a mask for mottling in the past which worked quite well with a brush.

Very nicely done indeed, Mylo and I believe this is the first finished build of this new kit that I've seen.

What a difference from the original Airfix 262!
Well done!

Well done!
I didn't know that! So 'perfect' airbrush mottling is in fact, unnecessary!Eric Mc wrote:In real life, German ground crew often applied mottle "in the field" using a sponge technique, so cotton buds and stipple brushes are a decent scale replication of this technique.

It seems to be the same with D-Day stripes, most of which, for security reasons, were applied the night before with anything that was available, brush wise at least. Dead straight neat stripes are probably not realistic!.skypirate wrote:What a difference from the original Airfix 262!

Re: Airfix new tool 1:72 Me 262
You need to look at pictures of the real aircraft you are modelling. If the paint was applied in the factory, mottles and stripes would generally be more carefully applied.
If painted in the field, then the quality of the paintwork could vary.
