Airfix C-47 Dakota
This is from the original mould of the Airfix C-47 Dakota. The boxing is actually from US Airfix and was released between 1963 and 1966. So the plastic is almost as old as me ( yep old I know :D ).
Decals from the DK Sheet of RAAF & RNZAF Dakotas and built OOB except for a couple of pilots seats in the cockpit which can't be seen anyway!
Got to love those rivets

That's really nice and good to see you kept the rivets!
That's an unusual camouflage scheme, I like it.

Re: Airfix C-47 Dakota
When building an old kit like this, I go by the philosophy that the kit is being built in the spirit and the norms of the time it was manufactured. I concur. A very nice build in a great scheme - celebrate and appreciate the rivets.

Re: Airfix C-47 Dakota
Excellent job!
I remember building the same kit (UK boxing) which I think came with an alternative scheme for Silver City Airlines.
Oh and not so much of the old if you don't mind regarding 1963

Re: Airfix C-47 Dakota
The beauty of the new releases is that it gives you the freedom to build the original as intended. If you want a modern and accurate DC-3, build one of the new ones.
Very nice it is too.

Re: Airfix C-47 Dakota
Thanks all, I must admit that some rivets were destroyed in the process of finishing it, my poor photography skills seem to hide that fact :D

Superb build of a golden oldie. And yep. I too am about the same vintage as that kit having been born in 65.
All the best.

Re: Airfix C-47 Dakota
A very fine build indeed, Ray, you have produced an outstanding model. I'm also of the school of thought that it is desirable to keep at least some of the features of a classic kit in the final model such as raised panel lines and rivets although I generally reduce the size of the latter with a gentle bit of sanding if I feel they are a little too obtrusive.

Re: Airfix C-47 Dakota
I am another who remembers this kit with the Silver City Airways transfer option.....
It may be the camera angle but the wings seem to lack anhedral. I remember the gap between the top of the wing and fuselage being big enough to drop your foot in and break your ankle!

Ahhh, them was the days. These modern kits with their perfect parts fit are so boring......Lone Modeller wrote:I remember the gap between the top of the wing and fuselage being big enough to drop your foot in and break your ankle!

Re: Airfix C-47 Dakota
Well spotted, I am not sure if it was my construction method or if the kit is engineered that way, there is definitely no anhedral.Lone Modeller wrote:I am another who remembers this kit with the Silver City Airways transfer option.....

Re: Airfix C-47 Dakota
Excellent work on a very old kit.
I recall building an Airfix DC3 A’s a young lad back in the early 60’s and recall it had a para trooper figure who was positioned in the cargo door ready to jump.
Is this the same kit did you get a para trooper with yours?
