Douglas JD-1D Drone controller 1/72
Douglas JD-1D Drone controller 1/72
Today the Airfix douglas invader is joining my ever growing fleet of Navy aircraft.
Known in the US Navy as JD-1D.
I build it otb with the addition of the Lonestar conversion wich adds the radar nose, the Firebee drone and the counter balast drop tank.
Some of the decals are from Hasegawa's F6F-1k drone controller kit. Some I made myself.
The oldschool riveting on this classic Airfix kit played havoc on decaling but in the end with the help of several brands of softeners they finally gave up.
Next up will be the Sikorsky JRS-1 "the Boat" special edition by Eduard.
Regards Paul.

Very interesting variant, and very nice work too. In a way the layout is similiar to Dornier 217s carrying the Fritz X or Hs 293 using a drop tank as counter ballast.

I've never seen this variant of the Invader before and that is a really great job using the venerable Airfix classic.

Brilliant job! Looks amazing. Unique subject too.
Just a note of warning, that JRS-1 kit doesn't have the best parts fitment. I did not enjoy building it...

Very nice build.
Got me to check-out online pics of the real thing.

Very smart indeed. This looks like a model to be built by the modeller who has built everything else, or by someone with an unusually focused modelling mind.
