Esci 1/48 JA-37 Viggen
Another one of my older models that have undergone better photography!
The slightly fogged canopy betrays its age.
This was a pretty basic kit in its day. I think it was released by Airfix at one time!
If I remember correctly, I think I had to scrounge the missile launch rails from the spares box.
I depressed the canard elevons, and that was about the only other modification.
What looks like fine stenciling was hand-painted since the kit provided not much of that. In fact the whole model was hand-painted in Humbrols without any masking. I could not face the tedious masking job it would have entailed!
It turned out to be quite a sizable model, on par with the EE Lightning. I suppose the old kit is now completely overshadowed by the newer Tarangus offering, but I have not seen one built yet. If I was doing this again, I would scribe some panel lines.
Thanks for looking,
David

WOW! WOW! WOW! What a beautiful model. Great job on this one - impressive to have the patience to hand paint that camouflage pattern.

Can't believe that's hand-painted! Outstanding work there.

Amazing work, David. Did you draw the splinter scheme on to the model surface before painting it? I don't think I've ever seen such a sharp, non-masked paint job.

It´s a great subject but that paint scheme is insane - well done! They do come in overall grey you know.....

Re: Esci 1/48 JA-37 Viggen
Thanks very much, everybody!
Apart from fear of this masking job, I suppose I was also a bit scared of so much masking, again and again, lifting the 'paintstaking' paint job.
I may also have had more patience in those days!
Cheers,
David
Mike, no, I just got stuck in, lighter colours first. Of course there were some colour misplacements, and quite a bit of tidying up of straight lines and corners.Migrant wrote:Amazing work, David. Great job with the painting. It's a colour scheme I have also hand painted so I know how hard it is to do. You have done it to perfection.
