Daz's BBMF Beast

So, after much umming and ahhing, I picked this beast out of the stash for my last big project for this year....

Image

My girlfriend bought me it for Christmas a couple of years ago, and it's been sitting waiting to be built. Dunno why I haven't done so already, but it's high time it needed doing!

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's aircraft have worn a number of paint schemes over the years, but this one in particular caught my attention....

Hopefully this will be a nice, easy one....!

Think you will enjoy this build. I encountered no issues with mine.

I've heard good things about this kit, Daz. I thought about one of these as I fancy building a quarter scale warbird but subsequently changed my mind (now there's a first, not  ) and decided that this year's Christmas treat would be the new tool 1/48th Tomahawk kit instead - blame the shark mouth option :ha:

I did the 1/72 version a little while ago. Very nice it was, too!

Just started putting some paint on the minor assemblies.

Not sure how much of it I'll get done this week, while I'm off, but we shall see!

Fuselage components going in....

If anyone's wondering, the cockpit interior paint is my own mix of Revell Aqua-color acrylics - some old white paint and "patina green". It's not 100%, but it's not too far out!

Airfix provides a decent enough looking interior in that kit, Daren. Is a recce camera supplied for the rear fuselage "shelf" with the option to have it on display?

There is a set of cameras for the interior. I haven't bothered fitting them, as the BBMF aircraft doesn't have them (as far as I'm aware), but the interior support was fitted to provide a bit more strength for the fuselage frames.

Wings are on now, though!

Well, I'm calling this done!

I didn't intend for this to be a blitz-build, but that's kinda how it ended up. The simple paint scheme was a big help, of course, but I don't imagine any other PR-type paint scheme would cause an issue. My biggest headache was that the serial number styles didn't quite match - I only had a few spare letters and numbers for that particular scheme, and they weren't a complete match to the actual paint scheme. BUT.... it looks fine anyway.

As for the kit, it's a very nice, simple build, with the only issue being to ensure that the cockpit parts are all correctly aligned when you join the fuselage halves.

I'll get some better photos tomorrow - the model is currently sitting on a paint pot because one of the undercarriage legs hasn't quite cured!
