DeHavilland Hornet and Chase XC-123A

Post by Barry »

Completed in October

Frog 1/72 Kit Decals still good after all these years. Vac canopy replaces the original

Converted from the 1/72 Roden C-123 consisted of resizing/reshaping the tail and tail planes,
moving/adding several windows and a door, Engines from a B-36 (pylons had to be cut down).

The Roden kit is very nice...I've already started on the Coast Guard version

Some really great work on these threads you put up. Valom Tornado? How you finding it? I'm finding it very errrrrr "Valom" to say the least.

Well Kit...as you say, some modeling skills required. Three issues so far: 1) the aft tip of the canopy is, in reality, part of the fuselage and didn't touch the fuselage when mounted. Corrected with scribing and filler. 2) On my kit, the tail was torqued 3-4 degrees to the left and I didn't notice it until the fuselage was all glued up. I cut through the fuselage on the left side under the aileron root, partially through on the right (you can see the scar), forced the tail vertical and blocked the cut open with plastic, then filled, sanded and polished to fix the damage. 3) The landing light should be on the left nacelle instead of the right. The box art is correct, but the instruction sheet is not, so I glued the nacelle fronts on the wrong sides. Easy enough to correct. The tail issue was the only thing that required a little work.

Lovely work with both!
Best wishes

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

That big transport is awesome!!!

Your to-do pile has some neat looking stuff too.

Is that a thunderflash in there? Italeri?

And a Lockheed Vega?

Cool!

It's the XF-84H Thunderscreech Ralph, and the new Northrop Delta from Azure.

Thanks James. My first major conversion, and I could only find 6-7 pics of it online. It is a nice looking airplane though, so I was a little surprised that Amodel didn't include it in their string of C-123's.
