Frog Spitfire Ia built as a IIa "Borough of Lambeth"
I really wanted to finish this ASAP, so I didn´t add the mast, or a pitot (less things likely to break off )
spare parts like the exhausts of an Airfix Spit MkI, and a canopy from Italeri, helped a lot to make the finished product look better!
....that strange white stuff in the background is the first snow of this winter...
I´m surprised that it came out like this, the beginnings of this build were humble, indeed!
I´ve taken a shot from the time when I carved out some makeshift wheel wells:
When I was looking up the net for info about this one NK-O-K, I noticed the pilot´s name: Alec Lumbsden.....
Hadn´t I heard that name before? ....Ahhh, yes, the author of some aviation books, like the one in the next pic:

Not too bad for such a very basic kit.
I remember making it around 1970.

Lovely job on a true Golden Oldie and mounted on one of Frog's terrific Skybases too!
I like the chipping around the gun panels and the story of her pilot!
How did you hollow out the wheel wells?

I didn't chip, I used a fine silver marker to imitate that effect :-)
Wheel wells : I used 2 or 3 different blades and a small chisel.
It was less tedious than it sounds,
cause Frog 's plastic was easy to work with!

Great job! Hard to believe this is a Frog kit - your finished model looks that good! I rather like the early war dark green / dark earth camouflage scheme on Spits, Hurricanes and heavy bombers over the dark green / grey scheme. The weathering you put on this one just adds to the realism too.
SNOW! NO! We haven't had any yet here in Connecticut - in fact it has been unusually warm. I'm not looking forward to it when it finally does get here.

Nice job! Carving out the wheel wells is a really great effort and makes it look much better than the moulded wheels-up effect.
How much snow do you get there? Every winter I hope to wake up at my normal 5am to find a foot of snow has fallen, making it pointless getting up..... and every winter I'm sadly disappointed

Good effort with that old kit, CP, the retracted undercarriage looks better for your efforts in carving out the wheel wells. We had a light covering of snow here in the north of England on Thursday evening but by Friday evening it had melted away but we are at low level, there was more snow on higher ground I believe.

Most of the snow thawed, we´re here at low level, too.
Here, in this part of the country, it´s so flat, we call hills of 100m/ca. 300 feet height mountains!

For a kit of that age you have performed a miracle! Very good finish too with the silvering - nicely done.

Thank you! Compared to my MiG-21, this one was a breeze :-)

Very smart! I've made a few of these old Frog Spits, and they're fun wee builds!
