Airfix 1/72nd Supermarine Spitfire F Mk.22 (new tool)
I finished up this today after a build time of around three weeks, which is fast by my usual glacial standards - my mojo had hit a bit of a slump and the idea of this build was to keep it simple, avoid the usual AMS fest that I tend to descend into and just build. The model is therefore almost OOB save for drilled out exhausts (don't go there if you value your sanity ) and the rear fuselage whip aerial made from stretched sprue. Paint is Hu-11 applied by airbrush with the shine being toned down with Humbrol matt coat post decalling in an attempt to replicate the painted finish of the full-size (the aircraft was not NMF). The spinner is Revell 36. Decals are from the box and I wasn't overly impressed, they didn't pull down as tightly as I would have liked (or indeed would have expected from modern decals) using Microscale solutions and a few of the small stencils showed a marked reluctance to stay attached to the model surface - makes a change to those decals that like to grab the model like limpets as soon as they touch!
Overall this was a fun project that restored my mojo as I had hoped it would but, as with all of the Airfix new tool kits that I've built, I found the fit was tight with little or no wriggle room and a fair amount of fettling and swearing was required to get a decent fit - particularly bearing in mind that I was aiming for the silver finish and most of us know how unforgiving silver can be to poor joins etc.
Anyhoo, here she is, markings are for No. 603 (City of Edinburgh) Squadron, RAF Turnhouse, Edinburgh, 1951.
Thanks for looking.

Superb! Really nicely turned out build Shaun, and I hope the mojo is suitably restored as a result!
Best wishes

As I said on your WW thread Shaun, that's a great looking build - well done.
Interesting hearing your issues with the decals, I had exactly the same issue when I built that kit, I had to bin it in the end as all the decals flaked off!

It has come out well. Generally I tend to be pretty much an OOB builder, and find that I dont lose my sanity too much ... and get things finished.

Nice, shiny, late mark Spit. What's not to love? Beautiful work on that
