Royal Aircraft Factory R.E.8 Airfix 1:72 (A01076)
My latest completion and likely last before Christmas, this is the venerable and much maligned Airfix 'arry Tate.
Built OOB with the exception of the forward cabane struts which were like tree trunks, and to be honest it wasn't too painful to build!
Paints are acrylic, by Humbrol, Revell and Tamiya and the whole thing was matt varnished with W & N Galeria matt varnish.
Rigging is illustrative rather than accurate, and is formed using knitting-in elastic painted with Humbrol 53 Gunmetal acrylic, and seemingly much to the horror of some the rigging was done before painting

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

That is a great build of what is one of Airfix's poorer efforts - indeed it could be argued that not only the rigging but the finished model is illustrative of the full-size rather than accurate Wonderful job though, Iggie, it really looks excellent.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

That kit is so old (and inaccurate) that I wonder that anyone still attempts it. Looking at yours I can see why. That is a very good rendition of the type and I particularly admire the rigging.

My goodness did you ever turn the proverbial sow's ear into a silk purse!
Talk about an absolutely amazing result from a very hoary kit!
I've got one in the pile and even though I build rigged biplanes from time to time, I blanched at tackling this kit and parted it out.
Yours has got to be the smoothest Airfix "Harry Tate" I've ever seen!
Not that many have the fortitude to tackle it.
Most excellent!

Excellent
All models are equal. Some models are more equal than others.

Lovely Job iggie!
(Sad to hear you're not going to be building for a while).

Remarkable result, Iggie!
I have one of these, built (not my build), and not rigged, staring me in the face for possible restoration.
The comparison with yours is like the proverbial chalk and cheese.
Well done!

From one who loves old kits to another, superb build and finish, well done
I've two in the stash (along with a lot of other "old" kits) to do, they'll be my fifth and sixth builds of the Airfix 'arry Tait

Been modelling for years, still learning . . . .

Thank you all for the nice words; they really are appreciated.
It's not such a naff kit to be fair but it would be nice to see it re-tooled at some point as it is quite an elegant aircraft

The rigging alone justifies praise, but the overall build takes it beyond that. Superb work, Iggie.

Fantastic work iggie. Kudos for tackling it and doing such a remarkable job. The rigging is very tight and it makes this poor model 100% better. You are to be commended.
