SCRATCH BUILT BOMB BAY SECTION OF MY 1:20 SCALE B17G

Post by Fozzy »

Hi everybody

A couple of weeks ago I posted my Front section of the B17G that I am scratch building in 1:20 scale........

Image

Well I made a rather crazy decision to continue down the fuselage and try to build the whole thing!

I started building the bomb bay on 17th September 2016 ...using the same sort of materials as the front end and it took me about a year!

So after a years work on and off and a lot of heart ache at times...I present to you the B17G bomb bay section.....I do hope you like it!

Here is what the B17G looks like so far!

....only another 4 sections to go!

I will be starting the radio room section some time early next year....I must be mad!!

Thanks for your time for having a look! :)

Is Fozzy doing this to try to make the rest of us feel totally inadequate?
Once again, stunning work.
I wish, that I knew what was doing!

Honey, I shrunk a real B17.
I swear some of those pics look so real. Are you going to keep it sectioned or put it all together permanently? Also are you planning on doing the wings too?

All the best.

I'm struggling to find enough superlatives for this one, Fozzy that is simply stunning scratch building, some of the best I've seen on here in fact.

What can I say ?
The choice to show all the fittings and lines on the exterior where the wings attach was a master stroke !!

I'm fairly certain the people looking at this work all have bruised chins from it dropping on the table-top.
Amazing work. Well done, indeed.

Hi Greg......I am not planning to put all the sections together ...I want to leave them as separate sections so that you can see all the detail. However how I actually display this has been bothering me for quite a while now!! .....As for the wings.....I don't think so although I think I will have to have a go at scratch building at least one of the engines. This project seems to change as the years pass as originally I was only going to build the front section!...oh well ;-)

When and if I ever get to the wings stage after all the fuselage is built then I will see how I feel about doing that....I might be dead before I get to that stage considering how long this is taking! ;-)

Thanks Greg.

I have no problems with sharing my techniques ...would be a pleasure.

I can do a Work in progress post on my next section of this B17G if that's any good?.

I am in the process at the moment of scratch building a Dewoitine D510 before I go back to the B17 project...I might also do a WIP on that one to see if anyone is interested!

Cheers...Fozzy
