Beriev Be-2 (KOR-1); VP Canada 1/72 vacform

The Beriev Be-2 was a Russian seaplane designed to fly off ships, though most seem to have been used as land-based aircraft. It was taken out of service in 1942.

The kit is by VP Canada, i.e. a 1/72 vacform. The mouldings were very good with nicely engraved lines. There were no decals or metal parts. I scratch built the undercarriage using scraps ad wheels from the spares box. The rear canopy fell foul of the carpet monster so I had to mould a new one, which wasn't a bad think as the original was rather flimsy and slightly yellowed.

That makes the 71st model that I have either built or restored since January 2017. That's a bogglingly large number - even I find it to be rather excessive. That works out at about one every five days. I need to do more gardening, reading, housework, walking, sleeping, watching TV - anything.

Another little gem. I must admit your combination of quality and quantity in 2017 has been mind-boggling.

Over 70 models the past year, and you still find time to set up such lovely photos!
The Be-2 is very nicely modelled. Well done. I suppose the single grey colouring would have worked well on the Russian landscape, and been easy on the guy with the airbrush.

Brilliant job as ever with this lesser known aircraft, and congratulations on a most prolific tally of builds for 2017!

That is a great looker, Vacant and, naturally, it's a type I've never come across before. 71 builds in a year is a serious amount of modelling - maybe you do need to get out more :ha:

I'm taken by both the stellar build and the beautifully staged pic. Really nice work, Vacant.

I have now been to my local chemist to ask for some Modeldone tablets - they may help with the cold turkey of my addiction.

Wow, that's great modelling again Vacant.

I've not built a vac-form kit before (just a couple of boats for radio control) and maybe one day when I've minimised my stash of CBK's maybe I'll give it a go. But I have to say that you set the standards pretty high ;-) And the fact that you manage to take such realistic photos too is a credit to you.

As for the amount of kits that you manage to build in a year, what can I say? I think I agree with the rest of the guys, maybe you need to get out more :ha:

'maybe you need to get out more'

I'm rather hoping that the collective wisdom and weight of comments such as this will shame me into doing just that - though I have a few kits I would like to build first, including a few more vacforms.

That's a beautiful Be-2! I built the MPM (?) injection molded version a few years back and your vac build has my effort beat by a country mile!

Absolutely stunning presentation of an unusual and attractive model!
You should be proud, if not a little exhausted!

Cheers,

David
