My last model for 2017 just scrapes in under the wire!

Ever since I saw the French markings offered in the old FROG P-47 kit I have had a hankering to build one like that. So a Hasegawa example was set aside for that project, and Model Art provided a nice selection of French P-47s. Work commenced in my Workbench Window about here:
http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=471&start=1305

I am sure that the old Hasegawa kit is not perfect, but I reckon it scrubs up quite well.

Image

All I added were seatbelts, a control stick (none in the kit), landing, recognition and nav lights, and a hole in the starboard leading edge near the cabin intake for the gun camera. And I replaced the pitot tube with a pin. If I had realised it would be so obvious, I would have used some of my old Aeroclub PE sway braces for the bombs. I suspect a modern kit would do that better.

Image

Painted mainly in Xtracolour enamels, with Humbrol support!

Image

Decals performed well. My first use of Model Art decals.

Image

I pre-shaded the under surfaces, and post-shaded the upper surfaces to represent fading. Tailwheel doors should be more horizontally mounted. Too bad. Let's call it weak hydraulics!

Image

And here is a final pic with my earlier model (same kit) built around 20 years ago, painted in Xtracolour faded olive drab.

Image

A very satisfying project for me!
Thanks for looking, and a Happy New Year to all!

David

They are really good. You have achieved a very realistic level of fading and weathering.

That's a lovely build, and French markings suit the P-47.

It was good to watch this coming together, David and what a final result. That is an excellent P-47 in a less than common scheme.

like I said in your WIP thread - the weathering is simply brilliant.

I've been studying your photos this morning and taking notes. I hope to replicate some of what you did here.

This build is on my Top Ten of 2017 list, for certain.

Talk about a stunner! I really like those French markings which are not often seen on a Jug.

Outstanding!

Lovely looking P-47, and the 20 year old is a beauty too.

That looks great. As does the captured one. Any chance of more pics of the Luftwaffe one?

All the best.

Greg

Though not up to my present standard, I will dig up a couple more pics.
Thanks, chaps.
