Boeing Vertol; Fujimi 1/72

Post by vacant »

This is my first completed build for 2018, no doubt the first of many.

The kit is the 1987 boxing of the Boeing Vertol Shirasagi. It's quite a decent kit, though the instructions sometimes left something to be desired (yes, I sometimes try to rad instructions). Part of the problem is that the kit is based on an older kit, but with some new parts added. The people who made the part did not always seem to talk to the people who designed the instructions. One problem is that the is an interior piece for the flight deck that I have no idea how to fit or even where it should go - so I left it out.

The biggest headache, however, were the decal. A whiff of moisture was enough to make them disintegrate. I discovered this early on when adding instrument panel decals. I resorted the usual tricks of Klear abut that did not work and more decals broke up. Then I gave them a coat of matt varnish. That was more successful, though not entirely. The decal are just wafer thin. The end result is a mix of hand painted, adapted and kit decals.

I took the model outside to take a photo but Storm Eleanor took its toll. I now have a rotor to repair.

That is very pretty. I've always liked the 107/CH-46.

It's obviously better than the Airfix kit (or is it?).

I think it is a bit 'better' than the Airfix kit, though I forgot to mention that the kit I had was made from a fairly brittle plastic - or perhaps it had just gone that way after some 30 years. That made it very difficult to cut some of the finer pieces from the runners and indeed, some of them snapped beyond repair. They had to be replaced with some simple scratch built pieces. But other than that, is a pretty good kit for its age.

A very striking scheme, and looks a great build as ever.
Best wishes

I really love that build of yours. I have a kit of the Mitsu. MU2, that sports a similar scheme ( thanks Migrant!), but haven't started it yet as paint has been a problem for me. That kit would look great by your helo.

Excellent build, Vacant, that really does look very smart. Post war Japanese schemes can be very eye catching.

You were quick out of the starting blocks.... I have only just got back from a short break and have not started yet!

Despite the problems that looks to be a first class model. I cannot see any of the scratch built parts - as per usual. The colour scheme is certainly strikingly different, and very well done.

Ditto!
A very smart model, in spite of the decal troubles.

Cheers,
