Congo 1960-1964 Project
My first complete modelling project, the UN intervention in Katanga, Congo, 1960-1964
Left to right:
T-6 Texan, Katangan Air Force (Hobby Boss)
Fouga Magister, Katangan Air Force (Heller)
Saab J-29C, Swedish Air Force UN (Heller)
Saab J-29A, Swedish Air Force UN (Heller with resin wing set)
F-86F Sabre, Ethiopian Air Force UN (Hobby Boss)
F-86F Sabre, UN Operated with Philippines AF pilots (Airfix)
F-86F Sabre, Iranian Air Force UN (Academy)
Canberra, Indian Air Force UN (Rebuild of Eastern European repop of Frog kit)
I may revisit this one later and add helicopters and transports. It's been fun to model all the early jets (my first love) that I wouldn't otherwise have touched.
DP Casper decals have about 30 sheets in their catalogue, so I've got plenty of choice for my next 'campaign' project.

An excellent collection Mr Owl, and it's been an education watching it come together....nice job Sir!
Best wishes

That's a great collection! I particularly like the Canberra and the Magister, sweet stuff.
Tell me Mr. Space Owl.... If you ever get grumpy with a model would that be 'Irritable Owl Syndrome'?
(Sorry. I'll get me coat)

Very nice mini-project, although I'm sure the work wasn't mini!!.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

As in the smallest of the owl family, the Elf Owl, grumpy and aggressive, originator of 'Irritable Owl Syndrome'.Zee28 wrote:That's a great collection! I particularly like the Canberra and the Magister, sweet stuff.

And yes, it does. Especially with Roden kits, which I've found to be borderline unbuildable, the early He-111 in particular. I was a very irritable owl when I tried building that one.
Thanks for the kind words chaps. they are much appreciated.

I especially like that Saab with the squiggle camo. Could you post more pics (or maybe you have posted them already somewhere else on the forum, and I didn´t notice yet?)
Waiting for the day, when wars for territory will be something to be read about in history books only.

A very sweet collection. It's nice to have themes like this shown here.

That is an excellent themed collection, Mr Owl and it's great to see those early jets. I've thought about doing a theme myself in the past but have just never got round to it properly.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Great looking collection mate
Been modelling for years, still learning . . . .
Model kits are meant to be assembled . . . . . . . . . . eventually.

They're scattered through Aviation Modelling, except for the silver Tunnan which was part of the Scandinavian Group Build. The squiggly Saab J-29 was made back in August and you can find it here: http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=15820 .Crashpilot wrote:I especially like that Saab with the squiggle camo. That is a great collection of builds - Nice work Mr Owl.
I really like that idea of a Mini project - I might try something similar myself.

Re: Congo 1960-1964 Project
A rare collection, and nicely assembled.
Coincidentally, I also did the IAF Canberra from a FROG or Novo kit, and it survives (to be stripped and restored one day).
Cheers,
David

Re: Congo 1960-1964 Project
That is a very cool looking collection Rob. I would pick the camo SAAB as my favourite too if I had to. I bet you are sick of building Sabres though. Which would you say is the best Sabre kit?

Nice set of builds, though some may say that's just Sabre rattling
