Airfix 1/72 Grumman Wildcat (New Tool)

Post by Miss-Stang »

Hi everyone.

When I was on the forum the other day I posted a comment on the thread 'What's in store for 2018?'. Well in it I promised to spend more time on the forum and to post more of my builds, so here's my first...

It's the Airfix Grumman Wildcat 1/72 new tool kit, hope you like it.

This is the interior. It was built OOB, using colour suggestions by Airfix.

Image

I was a little dubious of doing the NT kit (I have the Harrier GR1 in my stash and every time I frotter it, it scares me with how much detail there is) but I have to say, the detailing in the cockpit area was perfectly adequate for my tastes.

Image

The undercarriage all went together extremely well considering how complicated it looks.

All closed up with very little filling to be done and on with the paint.

And here's the finished article. I was pleased with the results and thoroughly enjoyed this kit. It went together extremely well and I highly recommend this kit if anyone is thinking of building a Wildcat.

Thanks for looking.

Lovely. Nice subtle exhaust stains too.

I have one of these kits in the stash and if it comes out looking like that I'll be very pleased, Miss S. Top work 8-)

You've done a lovely job of it. The tubby Grumman's are very attractive aircraft to my eye, and yours is a fine addition for your display cabinet.

Thanks for all kind comments guys.

It's another one to add to my 'Cat' collection. I'm very partial to anything with a radial engines 59North ;-)

What a difference to the original Airfix kit of this aircraft which, needless to add, I made many decades ago....! That looks to e a very nice little kit and is certainly a model to be proud of in your collection.

It's finishes like these that whet the appetite for that particular kit.

Makes me wonder about my overly fascination for old kits (quite strong right now!) ? I could have it much easier in modelling....
I hope it´s just a passing phase!
