A-Z Joy Pack-3 1/72 Spitfires

Just finished these by AZ. I went shopping in the big smoke (Toronto) with my boy and he convinced me to buy them although I was skeptical that 3 Spitfires could be had for less than $30. I was wrong. The kit contains 3 complete Spitfire kits plus extra parts to create a MkXVIe (cut down fuselage). Each kit has a choice of 2 air intakes, clipped or extended wings, armament options (c or e wings), 2 types of tailplane, 2 wheel hub options and 2 rudder options. No decals are included so you are on your own. The IXc was easy-I just used the extras from the Airfix IXC plus national markings from the decal stash. The other 2 were researched online. Fortunately, the XVIe was based on a flying example which in it's original iteration, was a clipped Spit as opposed to the full span version which depicts it. Also the Serial was different from the one currently carried. Similarly, the IXe FX-P was also based on a flying example. The only aftermarket or extras used were the decals, seatbelts from Eduard and a couple of rear view mirrors from Airwaves (The carpet monster devoured 2 of the 3 that were provided by AZ).

These are lovely! I have been tempted myself, and I bought the A-Z Bf-109G set for my Luftwaffe camouflage project.

A very fine group of Spitfires, indeed!
I didn't realize the XVI had a cut down fuselage. There are companies that market the Spitfire as a IX or a XVI out of the same kit in the box. Revell for example. It's good to know, that the fuse is cut down.

What an excellent trio and seemingly further evidence of any wad needed that (all together now) you can never have too many Spitfires

They look to be nice kits, worth keeping an eye out for if only to use up spare decals

From what I've seen, the XVI was also produced with the normal fuselage as well. Similarly the XIV.
