Douglas F3D-2 Skyknight 1/72.

Post by Navy one »

Hi all, Here is my first build of this year. The Sword F3D-2 Skyknight kit.
An excellent kit to build with excellent fit and decals by Eduard.
I am very pleased with the outcome, hope you enjoy.
Regards ,Paul.

I'm looking at getting one of these kits for a new project I have planned for the coming year. The finish you've got on yours is recommendation alone. Beautiful piece of modelling.

Anything tricky to watch for in the build?

The only tricky bit was the front wheel.
It had a stub in the middle as did the wheel strut.
I tried to make a hole for the strut but the drill kept slipping of.
So in the end I glued stub to the strut it's not the strongest but what can you do.
The only thing i added that was not in the kit were the seatbelts.
with that big canopy its very visible.

Great work, how did you get the different shades of black on the body?

The black isn't black.
It is glossy sea blue FS 15042 by modelmaster.
Thinned with 50% airbrush thinner by modelmaster. Panel lines are done with Tamiya's grey panel liner. Gloss coat by pledge floorwax.
