ICM Decal warning

Post by Nikonchris »

I sat down to a quiet Sunday afternoon to put the decals on my ICM 1/48 ME109F2. Put the Humbrol decalfix in place,, cut the first decal, put it in the fluid, after a minute come to move it and splits apart.
Try again, this time with luke warm water, and again it splits up
Third time unlucky again, decalfix and water, same reaction....

What a dud.

Be careful,
Chris

Are you OK for replacements? I may have something in the spares box.

Thanks, that's a very kind offer but I have ordered some today, just wanted to let modelers know before they start on the ICM HE.111

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks for that Chris - I have a few 1/48 ICMs - incl. Spitfires and P-51s, so I may coat the decals with Decal Film first and hope for the best. I'll also scan the sheets in case I need to print replacements.

Oh dear, that is not good. Few things are worse in modelling than getting a subject nicely painted and then finding the decals are rubbish. I'm in a similar position with an Airfix Sea Harrier that is now stalled while I source some alternatives. Very vexing! Hopefully your replacements will perform better than the ICM originals!!

I overspray the sheet with Krylon acrylic gloss spray. When dry, I cut very close to the decal and use my regular decal treatment. Works for Rodent decals too. I've only built two ICM kits and the decal issue was present both times. Once may be a fluke, but two or more times on different kits is a trend and it's one I'd rather live without.
