If I were a computer operated robot, I could have built this one without using any filler. As it is, I'm human and often not as careful so I should be, i.e. I'm human. The fuselage halves did not fit, probably because I glued something a fraction out on the inside. The wheel well area was problematic, probably because I did not glue the pieces exactly right. The fronts of the engines did not fit, mainly because I did something slightly out of what the instructions recommended. So I recognize that all the problems were self-inflicted. Nothing, however, can take away from the fact that the Airfix Shackleton s a stonking good kit, made all the better by being available at TKMax berforfe Christmas for only £25.


A bonus is that the wings are joined to the fuselage by stout spars and the fit at the root is snug - so it isn't necessary to glue them together. It takes up less storage space without the wings in place.

Looks wonderful. I particularly like Shackletons in that scheme rather than the later ones with white tops.

Very nicely done indeed, Vacant and I agree with the others, that is a great scheme for the Shack. However, I can't quite get over the fact that you, the king of the cheap and cheerful resto, have spent £25.00 on a kit

I didn't spend a penny on it. My wife bought it for me as a Christmas present after I saw it at TKMax for £25. She is the most understanding of wives. So my reputation has remained intact.

I guess when you remove and replace the wings it's kind of like a mini restoration each time

I was panicking when I saw you had built a new kit but happy to see you had a good excuse.

Gotta love the 'Bob Dylan goes electric' type reactions to the prospect of you spending real money to create a masterpiece.... almost as much as finished result.

Looks really smart Vacant, I love the colours. Out of interest, how long did it take to make? I ask because I've seen reviews of this kit and there are like a gazillion parts and I don't think I'd have the commitment to see it through to a finish.

But yours looks splendid.

It's not that bad to do.

That's some beautiful work. I would love to have a die cast version of your build in my collection. You've inspired me to get a Shackleton kit myself.
