Trumpeter RA-5C Vigilante 1/72 FINISHED
Re: Trumpeter RA-5C Vigilante 1/72
Hi Shaun, thank you for your kind remarks.
I used the flory models dark wash.
It's the first time I used it and I am very pleased with the outcome.

Thanks for the info, Paul. The Flory wash has certainly made those panel lines sing!

The Flory washes are OK Shaun but their adhesion varies enormously depending on the matt-ness or glossiness of the surface. I found adding a drop of washing up liquid helps them flow and adhere better.
Being that I build mainly CBKs and therefore don't use them very often because they only really work on engraved panel lines rather than raised. And re-scribing is a skill way beyond my abilities!

Trumpeter RA-5C Vigilante 1/72 FINISHED
I finished the beautiful trumpeter RA-5C Vigilante yesterday and today I took some pictures.
I am very happy with the outcome, especially compared with my old Revell RA-5C.
This I build about 30 years ago, and compared to the modern kit it's a world of difference.
The old with almost no panel lines and detail to the super detailed new one.
Hope you like it as much as I do,Paul.

Excellent work Paul; those pin sharp panel lines really work nicely to set the whole thing off
Best wishes

Gorgeous.
Even now the Vigilante has a great shape, hasn't dated at all IMHO.ShaunW wrote:That really is a wonderful build of one of the best looking jets ever made, Paul.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

I want one of these for my die cast collection. Only, I want it to look as good as your build. Beautiful job on this.

What they said. She looks great, and I've always liked the RA-5C.MarkyM607 wrote:Gorgeous.ShaunW wrote:That really is a wonderful build of one of the best looking jets ever made, Paul.
Well, it was ahead of its time. Its entire configuration, including the two-dimensional intakes, set the pattern for a generation of combat aircraft to come, most of which were far smaller! Imagine the Mirage IV being the original Dassault delta and the III, V/5 and 2000 being derived from it, and it'd be like that.Even now the Vigilante has a great shape, hasn't dated at all IMHO.
The most capable combat aircraft of the late 60s to early-to-mid 70s, from the MiG-25 to the F-14 and F-15, derived in whole or part from the Vigilante. The irony, of course, was that the A-5 wasn't all that good in its original combat role -- over-specialised, I think -- and didn't really come into its own until the RA-5C variant.
But who knows? Find and zero-time some airframes, refit them with modern engines and avionics, and you'd have a pretty mean aircraft -- and one that looked great, too!
