Superb builds. Very well done and a great tribute to the Forrestal.
As an aside I was talking to a friend who served on the Ark. I mentioned it being a pity she was scrapped as it would have been very useful during the Falklands war. His comment was " The old girl was in such bad shape she wouldn't have got there, she'd have sunk. The hull was just about rusted out"
That condition would certainly have stopped her ever being earmarked as a museum ship.

All the best.

I knew nothing about the Forrestal (until now!) but the tribute builds are super mate. I particularly like the Crusader.

You Know that this a new tool? I have only read favourable reviews of it and I´m looking forward to building it - hope it turns out like one of these!

@ Stamford,
Yes it's the disappointing "2012 new tool" A-4B with it's very poor shapes (especially the nose) and lots of incorrect/missing/anemic details. The "reviewers" really should've looked at the Intrepid Museum's A-4B "512AK 142833" that Airfix used as refs (then as one of it's kit decal options), then actually looked at the Airfix kit, it sure don't look like what it's 'spose to :shock: :shock:
I've a accurisation thread for this kit detailing it's problems, the upshot is the "fat" 1987 Fujimi A-4's are still better than the 2012 Airfix A-4B.
My accurisation thread here (started as an answer to a thread that the mods turned into a stand alone thread) : https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/airfixt ... 47356.html; ; it also includes modelling info for Argentine A-4P's as well as USN A-4B's.
As lots on the '72 scale forum have commented, ". . . the kit's been declared wonderful. . . " by too many without a clue, one was even not sure if the A-4's leading edge slats drooped without hydraulic power :shock: :shock:
Apologies to Dazzled and the mods for going "off topic" answering the comment :oops:

Wow, what a great collection :)

This really has been a very interesting subject. I must confess to not knowing much about aircraft carriers, though I have built a few Navy planes and helicopters. And I totally understand people being upset about the fact that it was scrapped (I am still annoyed about the fact that the Harrier has been retired :sad: ) but I realise that over time these beasts will deteriorate. Shame though.

I think you've done a great job Dazzled and I will look forward to seeing a few more of these builds over time - keep up the good work.
Regards,

Didn't Forrestal suffer a deck accident during Vietnam?. I think a bomb or rocket went off and caused an explosion and fire that killed many sailors and injured more. Destroyed a fair few aircraft too. This would be a good tribute to those men too.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!! :lol:

The fire you're talking about was in 1967 off in the Tonkin Gulf
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Forrestal_(CV-59;)
Forrestal had several fires over the years, hence the nickname "Firestal"

The '67 fire was caused by a combination of a misfired Zuni rocket and old, unstable WWII ordnance.
The VA-46 pilot in this show is Dave Dollarhide whose A4 on that day is one of my recent builds

Yes, I have quite a few to get on with including a Phantom, 2 Tomcats, a pair of N.A. Furies, Corsair II, Cougar, Cutlass, Viking, EA-6A Prowler, EA-6B Prowler and HS-3 Sea King.

Still Looking for others and decals for Skywarrior, Vigilante and A-6A Intruder although I might convert this to an A-6E and use decals I already have.

Are you building the C-130 that landed on the Forrestal?

Best wishes

Hi Dazzled:

I've used Starfighter decals for the airwings of the Truman and Enterprise. These may help establishing the codex's of a couple of deployments:
http://www.starfighter-decals.com/70071 ... 09159.html;
http://www.starfighter-decals.com/70015 ... s-for.html;
Also, the cruise books may be of help.

Great models by the way! This project should keep you busy for a bit.

Cheers,

Howard
