Did you see that documentary from the US?, I think they made a replica one of these. Tested it on a radar testing pole. Apparently if it came in low level over the channel, we'd never have spotted it in time. The design really worked well, even though it was 1940's.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

A nice build of the 229, Ratch. The aircraft looks like it was designed later than the 1940's and looks very sci-fi. It's a good job the Luftwaffe didn't receive this aircraft into service....
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: Pioneer 2 Horten Ho229
It was interesting but very misleading. They were trying to claim that the Horten was designed with radar stealth in mind. It wasn't. It was designed by the Horten brothers who specialised in designing flying wing designs. Like Jack Northrop they frmly believed an aeroplane was most efficient when it consisted of a wing only.MarkyM607 wrote:Did you see that documentary from the US?, I think they made a replica one of these. The problem was ensuring adequate lateral control, especially in pitch.
Nice model as well.

Weren't they designed as gliders?

Re: Pioneer 2 Horten Ho229
Horten specialised in wingless gliders. The 229 was an extrapolation of their philosophy on fuselageless aircraft only this time fitted with jet engines.
The stealth claims have been debunked by the people who currently own the only surviving Ho229, the US National Air and Space Museum and who know its construction and characteristics better than anybody else.
