Completely Scratch Built 1:30 scale Westland Lysander Mk1

Post by Fozzy »

Good afternoon chaps.
So far I have only shown my cutaway models...but I would like to show you some of my Scratch building work.
I occassionaly make a kit but nowadays I tend to scratch building as there is so much to learn ...and there is loads I don't know about!!...so hopefully you might be interested in this Westland Lysander that took me about 3 to 5 months to complete and is made out of Balsa wood, plastic card, paper, wire and most of the contents of the wifes kitchen bin!! ie ..old coca cola cans, plastic packaging etc!!...I never ever use after sales stuff as I don't believe in it as I think it takes the modelling away from the modeller!!...but of course I do understand that its each to their own...horses for courses etc etc!!!
Any how I am woffling!...heres the photos!

Magnificent, but why not 1/32 scale?

Hello James...thanks mate...sorry about the capitals...didn't realize!

when I was scaling the plans on my printer I saw that 1:30 scale would make the model a perfect size to fit in my display cupboard!!!....and also I guess that it would make it slightly bigger than the Airfix 1:32 offering...and finally I found that its a great scale for me to scratch build in.....that was it really!!..

Cheers

I may be repeating myself but I really would love to see a documented build of something like this! Great model.

A very good question Bruce, which is why I asked it three posts up! :ha:

Another impressive model with an amazing level of detail. Three to five months
build time making all your own bits is impressive as well. You have a talent. Lyell..

Another amazing model. Wonderful.
1/30 because of the cabinet? It is the old "fit the box" scale then.
I think it is a good idea that a museum (RAF, Imperial Warmuseum, etc) holds a special exhibition of your models. The models deserve it.
