Airfix new mould A6M2

Post by jssel »

This was a weekender as I was looking for a real quick build to take my mind off a tougher project for a while.

The new Airfix A6M2 Zero (Zeke) in the markings of Tsukuba Ku, an OTU which used run out war weary Model 22's and two seat K's for training and also bomber interception. The time frame is around March of 1944.

The kit is so easy to put together. Could be a real Blitzbau subject if desired. Lots of detail throughout. Decals are very nice and set down tight with a little Solv-a-set. A little pre and post shading of the panels applied.

Looks good.

I'm curious, are the sprues attached at the mating edge or to the surface ? I ask because my two new-tool kits are different.

Hi John. The sprue are mounted to the mating edge. They are quite wide but thin so a knife was used in lieu of spure cutters.

Nice little model there, Jeff.

What paints did you use?

Thanks, Johnsan. I used Poly Scale IJN Green uppers than a little light grey mixed for post shading. Tamiya Flat Yellow with a few drops of red for the lowers. The demarcation line was done with craft scissors with the edges cut for wavy lines. There is an in flight photo of the actual aircraft on the net.
