Airfix Me-262, 1/72 scale

Post by Allan31 »

The Me-262 really is a beautiful aircraft to look at. Karl-Heinz Becker flew this and the two seat version in 10./ Nachtjagdgeschwader 11 (10./NJG 11). It seems most of his seven victories came while flying this aircraft without the radar and being directed to targets via ground control.

Image

Becker was one of only 28 jet aces of World War II. Becker and his radio operator (Flying a 262B1a/U1, the two seater) downed six Mosquitos in two weeks, two within three minutes of each other on the night of 23 March 1945.

Airfix Me-262A-1a, 1/72 scale. Refer to my previous posts over on Hyperscale, Airfix GB to see how we got here, great fun and all pretty much done with a sanding stick.

Image

Evidently there are no known photos of this aircraft. The appearance is based on the verbal description given by Becker during an interview after the war.

Brass wire, sheet styrene, vac canopy from the altered kits with after-market decals. The DF loop is wire plopped down in a drop of 5-minute epoxy.

I am thinking about doing all my subsequent builds with closed canopies. It sure keeps the original sleek appearance of the aircraft intact.

I'm so glad my fingies are good enough to build again after my carpel tunnel bout, I missed this stuff....

Thanks,
Allan

Very nice, the canopy especially is very clear and looks quite thin. Very nice model.

I couldn't agree more with your opening sentence. The 262 is a stunning aircraft and you did a superb job with it.

Another lovely Airfix upgrade Allan. Has your distinctive look- clean finish, perfect seam-work, nice added details and those crystal clear home-made vac canopies. Image

Alan, I'm glad your hands are back in the plastic business too. Amazing build you did on that old kit!
