MPM 1/72 Mitsubishi J8M1

Post by Softscience »

Here are a few shots of my latest build, the first prototype version of the J8M1, Japan's license built version of the Me163. The kit is one of MPM's earlier, cruder offerings, but I think it builds up nicely. Its a great kit for somebody just getting into short-run models. I documented my build closely and will see if I can get it published as an article in SAM or FSM or something. But for now, a few beauty shots.

Neat. I like the look of this one.

All the best.

Interesting model. Japan had many prototype aircraft during WW2 but do
not see many models of them. The Rita heavy bomber is a example. Lyell...

Thanks guys. I appreciate that.

Lyell, I think I saw a kit of the Rita somewhere some-when. Maybe it was an older Hasegawa or LS?

Ralph, looks pretty good, but since you're going to submit it I'd look at what might just be photo artifacts:
-- slight gap/hole at right front of canopy join to fuselage ?
-- slight gap/hole about middle of right leading edge, just where panel line comes over ?
-- something brown(?) on left rear fuselage below the Hinomaru on tail ?
-- is silver on right-side bottom of rudder meant to be wear or is it overspray/brush from below ?

That's always been a nifty aircraft and scheme and you've done it very well.

It's my model and I'll do what I want with it.

Good call John. The gaps under the canopy and wing should be easy enough to fix. The silver bits around the engine will probably get a second coat, as the dirty overspray which was supposed to look like kicked up mud looks just like dirty overspray instead :)

As for the brown under the tail; there is a small stencil decal right there.
