Beech D-17 Sword 1/72 *FINISHED*

Post by Barry »

I've been sitting on this for a few years now, waiting for some civilian decals to appear. Finally a set has been released by: http://www.redpegasusdecals.com/;

Image

One fret...no resin, no etch.

Image

Some grunge..worse was digging it out from between two of the engine cylinders.

Image

Right side windscreen needed trimming

Image

Very nice interior here with sidewall panels and nicely pleated leather seats. Mostly not to be seen when closed up.

Image

There should by two braces forming a 'V' inside the windscreen...I forgot to put them in so...

Image

I cut out the front portion of the cockpit floor and will try to slip them in from here.

It's a lovely shape the staggerwing, ironically best seen without the wings on.

Hmmmmm....Yes, well, there's still that little jigsaw puzzle to work out on the bottom. :)

This is interesting Barry, a very distinctive aircraft. Best of luck with your attempt at putting in those braces.

The braces were fiddly, but ok in the end

Image

The kit just leaves a big ugly hole under here so i added a more complete cockpit floor and some structure. The silver 'wall' represents the front side of the main fuel tank.

Nice one Barry with those braces and I like the extra detail you've put in there to plug the hole.

The vertical tail fit beautifully, but the horizontals weren't shaped to match the fuselage. I filled this with
Green Stuff, but in retrospect, it would have been better to carve the plastic a little to get a better fit.

Lookin' good in yellow. Now I just have to wait for the decals to get here. Might take a couple of weeks.

At least you've been able to get the paint work done while waiting for them to arrive.

That's very pretty, Barry. Well worth hanging on for the civilian markings!

Staggerwings demand to be in civilian markings -- very good work Barry !

What a beauty. Very nice work Barry. Now I want one.

All the best.
