Turnbuckles in 1/48 biplanes

Post by Softscience »

People on another forum mentioned using turnbuckles to secure rigging on larger scale biplanes. I'm not entirely sure what they're talking about. Is this something which eases the rigging process, or does it look more realistic?

In theory it should make the rigging look more to scale. But only if the turnbuckle is also in scale.

I have several in 1/96 which I would think would be OK for 1/48-1/32 scale aircraft. Model ship shops should sell them.

It's a little twist of wire with a tiny loop at one end. You drill a hole and glue the twisted end in it and then you can thread your rigging through the loop.

See Bob's Buckles:

You can make them yourself if you have the patience.
