Hurricane advice needed.
I want to build a Battle of Britain Hurricane in 1/72 scale. Any advice on the best kit to buy?

Then you can't go far wrong with the Airfix Mk.1 kit - it may have (fine) raised panel lines, but its shape and dimensions are pretty good and its cheap!

There's always the AZ Models Hurricane Mk.1 'Early', which may be more accurate & detailed, but it's a lot more expensive at £16.00+. But as Paul says, with a little effort the Airfix Mk I can turn out into quite a nice little model at a fraction of the price. I think Hasegawa did a Mk I too, I've not beuilt it myself but some reviews say the rear fuselage skinning is overdone, but otherwise a good kit. But it would probably have to be eBay for one of those.

oops that kind of information from the beginning might have kept me from waiting a post!Old_Tonto wrote:Forgot to say it needs to be a Mk.1
Sadly enough these two MkII's (b and c) are the only Hurricanes I have or ever looked at so I I'm sorry to say I can't speak for any others. Keep us posted if you find one because I'm hoping these two won't be my last Hurricanes.

I have to say the Airfix Mk I would be my kit of choice - there's a good aftermarket set for it, plus a ragwing conversion from Magna Models if you feel the urge to really backdate it...
There's also the Sword early Mk I which is nice - has a resin interior, and the shape's pretty good although being short run it won't just fall together in the same way the Airfix one will.
I've never seen the AZ Models one so can't say, but avoid the Revell Mk I - if it's the kit that dates from the 60s it's not much cop - especially in terms of shape

Airfix Mk 1 is good. However the new boxings have a prop with a short shot blade. Old boxings are okay, apparently

Concur with Brews on that one - the IIC has issues with a dinky prop', but the Mk I is still the same affair as when originally moulded back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and James Burton used a wound third on his Telecaster...

Re: Hurricane advice needed.
I have built the Airfix Mk I LK*A kit number AO2082A. It is a beautiful kit. One blade is short shot in the mould in at least four kits I have seen. Refer to attached photo and Andrews link. I have made resin replacements for Andrew and I.
I will extend the offer to anyone who may have that issue with the prop. PM me and I will run off another as long as the RTV mould holds up.

Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale

That is a kind offer friend. It looks like the Airfix kit is the one for me. A trip to the LMS at the weekend me thinks.jssel wrote:I have built the Airfix Mk I LK*A kit number AO2082A. I got an Air Waves PE detail set from Hannant's. I have another Airfix kit to build, in Irish Air Corps colours.
