Re my post, quoted above. I have now bought the light tent and have carried out some experiments. My aim is to produce an image without any shadows underneath (just my preference). I don't have a finished model to try so I have chosen two pots, one of a roughly similar colour to a Spit. (Well, vaguely like!). Here is the result (let's hope the image appears from photo bucket):
I used two existing 40 W desk lamps (the type with a lump of glass for the bright bulb with two wires sticking out), one on each side, and a fluorescent desk lamp underneath to overwhelm any bottom shadows (although with Photoshop's magic that light might be unnecessary). The background came out with parts darker than the rest, but a quick job in Photoshop by selecting all this background and pasting in white fixed that. The addition of a test background in Photoshop gave the result).
Many model photo shots are taken with the camera looking a little down. Perspective causes the image to enlarge and therefore lean out at the top because the camera is slightly nearer the model there (think of the opposite when photographing tall buildings when looking up). To avoid that I had to hold the camera about 3 feet away, with telephoto on (although in my pic I did not stand away far enough as can be seen by the lean in the cup on the right.) . The result is what I want.
An ideal result would be to paste a suitable sky + landscape as the background (although the stationery propellers would be a give-away).
