Tamiya Aichi M6A1 Seiran 1/72
Kit: Tamiya Aichi M6A1 Seiran
Scale: 1/72
Paints Used: Vallejo Model Air and Vallejo Model for details
Here she is, all done up and nothing to blow up... I wonder what would have happened if they had managed their mission? I took the pictures using my fold-up photo studio for the first time. Lightbox with two halogen spotlights and a camera stand and a royal blue backdrop, and it cost me about 10 quid. Best 10 quid I spent in a while!
I hope you like her.

It was either this or a misstress. In the end Airfix turned out to be cheaper...

Re: Tamiya Aichi M6A1 Seiran 1/72
A truly excellent build with an impressive attention to detail!
Regarding the photos, I see that you're using automatic white balance on your Canon Powershot A3150IS camera. That's why the images have an orange cast – automatic WB is not good with incandescent lighting such as your halogen lights, and the blue background makes the auto WB try to add even more yellow to the pics. You can see on the close-ups that the background has a much healthier blue colour, right?
I'd suggest that in the future, you change your white balance setting from AWB to 'tungsten' (a light bulb icon) to get much more true-to-life colours.
It's on page 72 in the pdf manual, if you have the english language one.
Kind regards,
Joachim

I understood about half of that, but I will surely look into it! Thanks for the advice, I'll dig up my manual and get to tinkering with my camera. Always nice to have even better pictures in the future.

Lovely job - Tamiya do us proud with the beaching dolly on this and several other kits.

Excellent build. And quite an interesting aircraft by itself.

Sorry if I used too much g[r]eek there…
Basically: your pictures are great but they have a pronounced orange colour cast.
That is because you are using automatic white balance (AWB) on your Canon. The AWB 1) can't quite compensate for the yellowish light from your halogen light source (yellowish in comparison to daylight, that is) and 2) is fooled by the strong blue background which it tries to make more 'neutral' by adding the complementary colour (yellow) to the whole picture.
When shooting under your halogen lights, you will get accurate colours if you change the AWB to Tungsten (symbolised by a light bulb in the menu). That is a fixed setting, so it won't be fooled by the blue background, either.
But don't forget to set the white balance back to AWB when shooting general pictures outdoors.
Good luck with that!
Beautiful model!
Kind regards,
Joachim

Good looking model, Rob. Clean, crisp build.
Really nothing pithy to say.

A beautiful build of a very elegent aircraft. I don't need to start a new collection in the direction of Japanese aircraft but something like this makes me tempted!.
