ICM 1/72 Fokker E.IV

Post by IvanV22 »

This was my first ICM kit, it started Ok , but I soon noticed it was a bit different from what I was used to. This is what the kit looked like.
Image

It went together OK, just needed to reinforce some joints.

But the major difference was that some attachment points where so small that ordinary cement melted them away… that happened with one of the tail elevators… I took several attempt to reglue it with ordinary glue / super glue before I managed to get it to stay on in one place…

I know learned my lesson, just use ordinary glue…

Next lesson… The decals… I ( as always) try in the places that are not in sight, the undersides of the wings, the decals broke into MANY bits… For the rest of the model I tried coating them with future , it helped a little, but most of the decals had to be applied in small pieces… I don’t know If this is common for ICM , I have never in my 50+ years ever had such a nightmare with decals. But I do0 expect that decals like other products will often take damage too poor storage environments, temperature and humidity , so that when one kit will be rubbish an other will be OK , I don\t know…

The kit is being rigged and is loaded in a Lego jig, and you can see the break points in the decals…
This is my first attempt at rigging by drilling holes in the wings.

The finished kit, the 2 mechanics are really Heller WW2 Luftwaffe, but I think they can pas for a WW1 mechanic.

And at last the model is fitted inside a “sweets box” just barely fitted! But know on display along side some other WW1 birds!

Hope you liked it!

I know where you are coming from with the decals. I've build 3 ICM kits and have had problems with all 3 decal sheets.
Love your model and love your display cases. Cool idea!
I'm a mostly full-time modeller put a part-time poster....

Nice work. I always think the EIV looks meaner than the EIII. Recently finished the Eduard version and it too is rather delicate in the tail area.

That is one beautiful Fokker! Also like your display boxes.
Confused as always, and somewhere in hiding on the Scandinavian peninsula...

Hi!
Thank You for all the kind comments!
So I understand that ICM decals are not the best….
And that the Eduard kit also has a tricky tail… this was the first time that I experienced that one drop of glue was enough to totally dissolve a tail fin….
And about the display box, it almost didn’t fit… a few mm to spare…
