Fokker D XXI 1/72 Matchbox/ ROG boxing of PM kit *FINISHED*

Post by Barry »

I started this a couple of years ago as part of a CBK project. It sure looked CBK-ish to me, but apparently it's really a PM kit, so I put it aside and did a Walrus instead. I had the airframe all together, so stepping in now, I added some cockpit structure.

And we're on our way.

The edges of the cowling need thinning, but the cowling glues onto the fuselage and supports the engine inside.

Image

Adding a plug lets the engine fasten directly to the fuselage so that it can support the cowling ...

Image

...and the edges can be thinned. The gap is small enough that you really can't see inside the cowl, so don't have to worry about detailing the rear of the engine.

Image

Oddly, the ailerons are represented by raised lines, but the elevators are engraved.

Sorted.

This is not a type I've come across before, its a smart looking beast.

Lovely work so far on the thinning and re-scribing, the cockpit looks really good.

Looking forward to seeing it finished...

I have the PM kit...... i'll follow this with interest!
Sometimes the talent consists exactly in that: try five dozen times when others stop at three dozen...! (F.Labelle)
I think that modeling is a subtle mix of zen philosophy and absolute crazyness - but in my case I would not dare to specify the respective percentage of each......

I picked up the old FROG version for £1 last year. I should have a go at it sometime.

Thanks...I've been meaning to do one for years now because I always think of it in the same class as the Curtiss P-36. I want to see them side by side.

Nice work on the cockpit, I built the PM version last year as part of a two a/c at one time blitz, so I paid very little attention to detail but it turned out OK.

That built one looks very good. I have an old frog one I haven't gotten round to making yet.

This is the 1:1 replica in the Dutch Airforce museum. (Note: the markings are orange and not dayglo as they appear in the photoflash).

Nice start, Barry. Watch out for the undercart - it is modeled fully extended so it looks very tip-toey, OOB.

That's a thing of beauty. Very impressive work. I have one of these to build some place and will doubtless use this thread as reference. Incidentally I hope someone rescues the PM range and re-issues it, some of them are gems.

All the best.
