HobbyBoss Me 262A-1a - 'White' Kommando Novotny - NEW PICS!

Post by Sissel »

Being a HobbyBoss kit, I was surprised opening the box to find several small sprues with more parts than I expected. :)

This model went together quickly with no real troubles. As usual I forgot nose weight(!!), but put lead in the nose bay and it sits on its legs.

I was happy with the model until I coated it with matt varnish. On my last models I've had troubles with that varnish, and they end up anything but smooth. The effect of the matt varnish can easily be seen here in form of streaks, spots and 'dirtyness'. It's like the model is slighty weathered at areas, and there seems to be uneven paint, but that is the varnish. Hoping for better luck next time.
The yellow band split up into four or five pieces when I put it on the model, these HB decals were not very good! I also had to paint yellow band underside cause of the decal dissolving.

Other than that, I'm pleased with the model, not one of my best, but there was not many hours spent on this kit. It's been a sort of inbetween kits kit. :-D

'White' Kommando Novotny, November 1944

EDIT: I HAVE ADDED CORRECT SWASTIKAS AND PAINTED CAMO STREAKS ON LOWER TAIL, REPLACED PICS.

That's a sharp looking model and what a lovely clear canopy. I can't see any varnish problems either. Perhaps the forward u/c leg should angle forwards a little but it looks great overall.

Thanks guys!
You are right vacant. The nose wheel didn't behave very well and it's actually a bit wobbly because of the lead in there. :)
Couldn't get it more forward.

Chocolates?? WHERE ??!! :-D
I only built my first HB kit this August, and I enjoyed it. The Zlin-142 during the Blitzbau. This is my second HB kit. I have one more in the stash. A Midget Mig.

That looks fantastic. I especially like the colours and finish. As said before cannot see the varnish problem in the photos.

Rats!! I just noticed I forgot to extend the green streaks down the tail... :frown: (had masking tape there first)
Will be fixed tomorrow!

Thank you despondman. :)
The varnish problem is very noticeable, you guys need to look at the paint, closer.

I have zoomed in by Ctrl and eight times. That's close enough. I still can't see any problems with the varnish.

Excellent 262!!!! The HobbyBoss kits are a nice change of pace and build themselves. And I can't see any issues with the varnish either. I will say that you are one of the most accomplished builders and painters that I've seen!!!!

Quick builds are fun builds, especially with something like an Me-262.

Nice job with the handbrushing!

Well done Sissel, I have a couple of these kits so it's nice to see what they look like when they are built.

These comments were nice to wake up to on a sunny Sunday morning (11.22pm).

Thank you very much for the nice words everyone! Means alot.

It's been pointed out in my workbench thread.
I was just following instructions and assumed the swastika was correct. I didn't bother to check any references or real life pics for this build. Have put swastikas on in the past many, many years ago, and they have been correct.

So after breakie, which is in the oven, I will take the model out and remove the swastikas and put new on (have a full sheet), then add the green streaks. Probably be easier and quicker to just overpaint actually.
