Revell 1:144 , AH-64D Longbow Apache

Post by IvanV22 »

At the local toy shop I picked up a Revell starter set and thought It’s a long time since I built an helicopter. When I opened the box I was both impressed and scared ! There must be more than 4 times the parts of an old airfix 1/72 airplane and so many tiny parts!

The rocket pod shows how tiny the parts are!

I needed strong lights, magnifying eye piece and I moved into the kitchen, away from the carpet monster.

Image

The kit went together nicely and was brush painted with the starter set paint .

The kit came out fine, and I only broke one of the main rotor blades twice and lost 2 small parts!
I\m satisfied!

That Apache looks great! It's very small in that scale isn't it.
The decal sheet looks interesting with all those little decals. Did you put them all on?

I like your ruler ;-)

Thanks!
Small… Yes, have build some 1/144 aircraft from Revell with about 10 parts, this was very different, but fun..
The “ruler” is 2 meters long, and measures in cm and inches … It’s excellent for showing the real size of things!
And YES I did put on all the decals, even the 2 stripes on each of the 8 rockets are decals… a painstaking job, but fun…

I like your ruler cause I have the same one. Typical carpenter ruler. :)

Thanks!
I forgot to mention the tools one needs!
But remember what you need is:
1- VERRY good light!
2- good tweezers, try putting some tape on the ends , it helps , I only lost 2 parts!
3- magnifying head eye piece (or extra strong glasses)
4- a cut off Q-Tip with some sticky stuff one the end, helps holding parts that are too small for the tweezers , not to mention my fingers….
5- Get rid of the carpet monster, move to a room with no carpet!
6- and if all this fails, take a break and a cup of tea or a beer!

Thanks Ian, but I think it would look better with the 2 missing parts…( can anybody see where they should be…??)
But it would look even better with a crew, please model makers give me a set of 1/144 people, pilots ground crew..

That looks quite nice, for its small scale, the detail is great.

I'm building the ACE boxing of the Revell 1/144 chinook, it has a lot of parts and details to add as well!

Hard to believe it's 144 scale, I built a 1/72 version and it didn't look as good as this, top work mate. ;-)

I´ve seen that kit in the shops - didn´t know it was so good! Really sweet finish that must have needed very steady hands!

That's a superb finish for 1/144 scale. I only do 1/72 and I find some of them a bit challenging on the eyesight, I use a magnifier quite often. But I could never do your sort of job on the Apache if my life depended on it!

I've got 1/72 models that haven't come out as good as this, top job!

Had you not mentioned the scale it would have fooled me. Very nice job in this. What a get looking kit.

Smashing job, truly belies it's small scale.

OT I find it interesting that there are inches on a Scandinavian ruler

It's a carpenter's ruler, and as a carpenter you work with inches on planks etc. That's why there's both on. :)
