1/72 Karaya Supermarine Seamew kitbash

Post by VickersVandal »

This is a continuation of the Getting Things Done GB thread.

Ironically of course, it didn't get done....

So far it's been a very nice kit to build. Nice work from Karaya.

Wing alignment of biplanes has been killing me lately. I want to be quite sure on this one. Thankfully we have a fairly respectable lego collection in this house.

The lego is also being used to entertain the 3 year old now that I'm on holidays. Of course, I have to be forced, forced I tell you, to play lego with him ;-)

The Seamew is twin engined but as this is a Biggles build I'm making this as a single engined aircraft, as per illustrations. The Seamew has tiny engines (one of the reasons it saw very little service - too underpowered) and the engine pod is way too small so I've raided the spares for some parts I cast up for a different Biggles flying boat project, combined with the front of a Walrus pod. Kit parts on the right, replacement parts on the left.

Yeah, just like I have to be forced to play Scalextric (especially now I've got my '69 Camaro).

This is looking real good VV, you do like an ambitious Biggles project don't you?

Yes......yes I do. Nothing is ever straightforward. Not that I particularly want to complicate things, but the model needs to look right.

I'm gradually beating the new engine pod into submission. Shown with the puny old one again for comparison.

Nice to see this progressing VV. That new engine pod looks much better than the kit supplied one.

Can't have a wimpy engine for Biggles can we? :)

Bit of wing rib detail using the patented VV Rib Emphasis Technique
I think it adds a lot to the look of CDL wings. Plus, this plane is supposed to look like it just took off through an eruption of volcanic ash.

Remembered just in time that I needed to do this before adding the upper wing... ;-)
