A Scottish Farewell...

Post by Viking »

Strange to think that the Tornado F3 may be the last real plane that 43 squadron flies; unless something strange happens and they get typhoons. To me, some squadrons should always fly certain types of planes and 43 should be a front line fighter squadron. Nothing against Hawks or the boys down at Valley, but i felt the same way about 74 squadron; it just looked a little odd having the tiger's head on a black trainer hawk, likewise 19's dolphins, and i'm sure i would feel the same way about 617's lightning bolts; they belong on big loud bombers.... Anyway, rant over :)

this is the specially painted F3, from 2006 for the 90th anniversary of the RAF, of 43 squadron based at RAF Leuchars and flown by Wing Commander Beach.

The kit is the Revell F3, another of my stash of half built planes that i am trying to finish. Cockpit fairly roughly put together years ago so i just left it and put the rest of the kit together. Few fit issues, just 1 around the lower join of the missle bay and fron undercarriage. Alclad and humbrol enamels airbrushed on, decals from Model Alliance (UK air arm update 2005-06 sheet), all of which went on with no problems; even the 43 crest which was in 3 parts. In the end i am pleased with this and i looks good in the display cupboard.
