Spitfire canopies

Post by oldgit »

The early Spitfire I canopy was flat sided and 'flat topped'. Later MkIs had flat sided, domed canopies with a knock out clear view panel on one side. I understand that the last of the MkIs and most of the MkIIs had a fully blown canopy.

Does anyone know if records survive that tell us when canopy updates were effected for the MkIs already in service?

Would this have been done at MUs or 'in the field'?

Is it all possible that some Spit Is could still have been flying with original flat sided, flat topped canopies in 1940?

Thanks in advance if anyone can provide any answers.

Tim
