The DVD box set is relatively cheap, you know...simple stories, full of unnecessary deaths and big explosions and lots and lots of ace vehicles.

I have been working on this over the last week but just applying several coats of Halford's white primer. It's not a very dense paint and requires a few coats before it covers. Then there was a bit of additional filling which needed covering too. I've also been concentrating on getting a really good finish. It's ready now though for the next stage which is to add some panel lines. I've had an idea ;-)

OK so my idea to do the panel lines came from the fact that Halford's Appliance white (like most gloss whites) is rather translucent and is a bugger when trying to cover up filler marks etc. So I decided to draw all my panel lines on to the matt white undercoat using a pencil and masking tape. Not easy to get a consistent line as the mattness of the paint varies causing it to take up more or less graphite. The graphite also repelled the gloss whitepaint in some places and so needed an extra coat that manage to cover some fainter lines. The result isn't amazing but by I'm reasonably happy and it is far from turning out a disaster.

Should have the black and red areas masked and sprayed tomorrow with luck.

James' new technique: pre-paneling. From what I can see I like, subtle and not even, looks just right to me. Well done, another to try.

Cheers

And so much more neat and logical than pre-shading which oft resembles a drunkard's walk .... excellent idea ....

After a lot of masking and a tiny amount of paint the anti-glare and red trim are complete.

The canopy has been brush painted metalcote silver, though the paint was dry when I removed the masking the blob of paint on the stick is was mounted on wasn't *sigh* I think I've got most of the paint off.

Angel Barbara 'Babs' has had a lick of paint and some lippy too ;-)

Just got to paint the recesses and add gun and retro rocket before decalling.

After ripping out the seat that was way off centre, faffying around with the broken head rest and getting a red thumb print on my white paintwork *sigh* Babs has been squeezed into the cockpit and thankfully the canopy fits!

Image

Intake grill and fin slots have been treated with some thinned black paint. Gun and retro rocket from Contrail tube and rod painted and ready for insertion.

Well an hour long decalling sess has seen this finished. The decals are excellent as you'd expect from Cartograph. All the stencils are readable (if you've got good eyesight) hence I move #8 from the side of the fuselage to the ailerons as they said no step. The long red stripe took a while to get straight as the convex curve of the spine-fin mean you can't pull it straight.

Image

Bar a coat of Klear I'm calling this done and I'll take better photos at the weekend.

The final model looks pretty nice but a lot of that is the excellent decals and the extra refinements made, to be honest it's a bit of a sad old kit marred by the Snapfit mods. A new canopy would have been a nice touch as Airfix's own plans show the kit part to be far too flat.

Very nice, James.
I take your point that, in order for a modeller to make the Angel look at least reasonable, you can't be a novice.
It'd be ace if this was chosen to be one of the New Tools!

Bruce
