Splash's Royal Naval Sea Viper ***Finished***
In 2071 the Royal Navy introduced the Sea Viper FR1 to replace the aging fleet of F35 Lightning II’s.
Based on the World Army Air Force Viper, with the addition of folding wings and conventional undercarriage the Sea Viper will equip all Naval Ships that are larger than the 3000 ton Dido class frigate, as all these ships have a top speed of 60+ knots the Sea Viper approaches the stern of the ship at 90 kts slowing down to match the ships speed on short finals, with the ship moving at between 25 & 60 kts into wind the Sea Viper can carry out a normal landing on the flight deck without dropping below it’s 20 kt stalling speed
(Note: as the stalling speed of the Sea Viper is 20 kts, to reduce weight the RN removed the hover engines, this gives the Sea Viper a greater payload than the WAAF Viper, even with the addition weight of the wing fold and undercarriage).
With the addition of the folding wings the Dido class Frigate can carry two Sea Viper and the soon to be introduced Spirt class fleet carriers will hold up to 120 in three hangers below the flight deck and a further 40 on deck.
( Note: HMS Pussers Rum is due to be commissioned early next year and HMS Gin & HMS Tonic 6 months later. The government has still not yet decided on the fate of HMS Pim’s, there was a rummer that she was to be sold to the Irish Navy and renamed Guinness or to Singapore as the Tiger Beer, both these rummers have been denied by the Ministry of Defense.)

Re: Splash's Royal Naval Sea Viper
Thoughts on RN colours?
As this is a sixties tv series should I do it in dark sea grey over white or the modern low vis?
I think retro but I might change my mind.
Regards

Re: Splash's Royal Naval Sea Viper
Having read Bruce’s thread I’m starting to get a picture in my mind on how to proceed, I agree with Bruce’s logic that the nose on the Angel is pure spectrum and a shorter more conventional nose would suit an RN a/c with a possible nose fold to reduce the a/c length.
I’m going to add a conventional undercarriage and thought I might make wing bulges similar to the old Venom but on the wing joint, The wingtips will fold vertically up at the natural fold point and will probably have wing tip missiles or tip tanks depending what’s in my spares tin.

Retro's good for me.
After all, we're talking about a 1960's-inspired model.

They say the simple things in life are free.
The solution to my wing fold problem was simple and free, I just fitted the wings on upside down and it works.

If you remove those bulges, you get instant u/c bays!

Re: Splash's Royal Naval Sea Viper
To be a SKGB how much of the kit do I have to use ?
I could not live with the thick tail so it's off whith the old and on with a thinner one.

With those up turnd wings it probably would not need atail aerodynamicly speaking. But that is when artistic licence takes over.(in other words,do what looks the best ).

Given the tendency of deltas to rob T-tails of airflow, at certain critical angles and causing...erm....trouble, perhaps you could create a faired rear housing for ecm (eg Su-37) and place twin, canted fins, made from your surplus T?

Re: Splash's Royal Naval Sea Viper
Another great looking whif, I'm thinking that maybe I should have a try at whifing, not in this group build but for another time as clearly these look like a lot of fun to build.

Having seen what all the other Group Builders are doing, I think mine is looking a bit tame.
